Royal Baby: It's A Boy! And The Baby's Name Will Be...

news / 2013-07-23

Facts and figures about some of the most popular royal names within the monarchy.
The royal baby is born! Prince William and Kate Middleton have welcomed their firstborn, a healthy baby boy, whose birth was announced via a press release. The 8lbs 6oz (3.8kg) Prince of Cambridge was born on July 22 at 4.24pm after Kate went into hospital in the morning in the early stages of labor and Prince William was present for the birth.

It's a boy!

The world has been eagerly awaiting for the birth of the royal baby and the announcement of the gender, as Kate and William never revealed it. Now that we know that the baby is a boy, everyone's busy speculating about the baby's name, which "will be announced in due course," according to Kensington Palace.

The name waiting game

Prince William's own parents, Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana, waited seven days before deciding on his name, while the Queen took a whole month before giving Prince Charles his moniker, so it could be a while before any formal announcement is made.

But still, the most likely options are classic regal names, so don't expect any baby names that are too outlandish. Already, punters have placed wagers on what the heir to the throne will be called. Here are some of the facts and figures about some of the most popular royal names -- any guesses on the name?
