Fight Cellulite With Dry Skin Brushing

Try this ancient holistic technique to improve dimply skin!
Want to minimize cellulite and have glowing skin all over? Try dry skin brushing -- this ancient healing practice involves using a body brush to exfoliate while the skin is dry. According to holistic experts, daily brushing sloughs off dead cells, cleans out clogged pores and promotes toned skin, and proponents swear it dramatically helps in reducing the appearance of cellulite.

Plus there are health benefits, too: Firm, gentle brush strokes across the skin stimulate circulation, which helps rid the body of toxic wastes more efficiently. "We dump about a pound of waste from our skin on a daily basis. When your skin is clogged, those toxins reabsorb instead of being eliminated," explains Kris Carr, wellness coach and author of Crazy Sexy Diet. By dry brushing from head to toe, you'll improve lymphatic flow, which is vital for developing a strong immune system.

Getting started is easy: All you need is a natural-bristle brush or loofah glove from any health food store or online, says Carr. To dry brush effectively, first remove your clothes then follow these steps:

Dry brushing tips:

  1. Start with the soles of your feet, brushing up towards your heart using light, circular motion. Continue working up your legs, bum and back. "Pay special attention to the dimply areas," advises Carr.
  2. When you get to your stomach, massage in a clockwise direction following the path of the colon.
  3. Next, brush from the hands up to the arms and shoulders, again in circular strokes.
  4. Avoid dry brushing any irritated or broken skin. If you want to brush sensitive areas -- like your décolleté and face -- use a scrubbing or dry washcloth and go extra gently.
  5. For the best results, experts recommend dry brushing at least five days per week, in the morning before you shower.
