Laser Skin Resurfacing

Fight skin blemishes with these popular laser treatments.

Nonablative Laser

  • Nonablative laser resurfacing is also termed light-based therapy or laser photorejuvenation. There is no surface skin burning associated as with ablative lasering techniques, so down-time is minimal and the results are more gradual. Examples of non-ablative lasers are Nd:YAG lasers (such as Cool Touch), diode lasers (such as SmoothBeam) and pulsed dye lasers (such as N-lite).

A cooling spray is used on the outer skin while the laser beam is being directed onto the treated area. Treatments are usually performed 3-6 times every 2 to 4 weeks apart. Improvements are usually not observed until after the 2nd or 3rd treatment.

Fine lines wrinkles and scars are softened, and skin tone and elasticity are improved as the collagen layer thickens.
  • Suitable for: This treatment is suitable for all skin types with mild to moderate facial lines and scarrings, and also for those who are unwilling or unable to accept the lengthy recovery time and risks of ablative laser treatments.
  • Down-time: There is no major tissue wounding or lengthy healing time. The minimal swelling and reddening of the skin usually disappears after a few hours.
