Types of Emergency Contraceptions
There are 2 types of emergency contraception available:- 1. Emergency Contraceptive Pills ("Morning After Pill")
The "morning after pill" is similar to birth control pills, but contains higher doses of hormones. They may contain only one hormone (progestin), or two hormones (estrogen and progestin).
True Emergency
Only use the "morning after pill" as an emergency contraception. It should not be used as a regular birth control method.
Contraceptive Method: Oral contraceptive pill.
Effective Period: For emergency contraceptive pills to work, they must be taken within 72 hours (3 days) of unprotected vaginal intercourse, although the sooner the pill is taken, to higher the effective rate. Follow closely the advice given by your health care provider.
Failure Rate: Up to 4%.
Suitable For: Most women.
