- 2. Intrauterine Devices (IUDs)
The intrauterine device is a small T-shaped device that is placed inside the uterus or womb by a health care provider, and can be removed after the next menstral cycle. It also can be left in place for up to 8-10 years if used as a regular method of birth control.
Contraceptive Method: Intrauterine contraceptive device.
Effective Period:The IUD must be fitted inside the womb within 5 days of unprotected vaginal intercourse.
Failure Rate: Up to 2%.
Suitable For: Women who have past the 72-hour deadline for effective contraception using "morning after pill".
