Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Gas, abdominal cramp, diarrhoea, diarrhea, constipation. Sounds familiar? You may have IBS.
Symptoms of IBS
Symptoms vary from individual to individual. Some may experience constipation, others diarrhoea, and still others suffer from alternating constipation-diarrhoea episodes.

Generally, the main symptoms of IBS are:
  • Stomach cramps
  • Painful diarrhoea or constipation or both
  • Bloating or swollen abdomen
  • Mucus in the stool
  • Feeling that one has not finished a bowel movement
Bleeding, fever, weight loss, and persistent severe pain are not symptoms of IBS and may indicate other problems such as inflammation or cancer.

If you or your doctor suspects that you have IBS, he may perform other medical tests to eliminate other diseases that may produce similar symptoms.
