 | | 5 / 11 5. Perform regular breast self-check
Examine your breasts monthly to catch breast cancer early, when it's most treatable. To do a breast self-exam, follow these tips from The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. See your doctor if you notice anything suspicious.
- Stand in front of a mirror and gently squeeze each nipple to check for any discharge. Also look for visual changes such as a lump, skin dimpling, swelling or redness.
- Lie on your back with your right hand behind your head. Move your left fingers around your right breast in concentric circles toward the nipple.
- Examine your breast in a vertical zig-zag direction, moving from right to left. Also feel the area below your armpit and the upper chest area. Switch hands and repeat for your left breast.
