Vaginal Discharge: What's Normal, What's Not

Trichomoniasis
Discharge: Green-yellow or greyish, foul odor
Other Signs: Itching, burning or redness of the vulva and vagina

This condition is caused by an organism called Trichomonas vaginalis, which can be sexually transmitted from person to person, and which produces a foul, green-yellow discharge. Trichomoniasis is associated with an increased risk of inflammation of the fallopian tubes.

It is easily diagnosed by a physician via microscopic analysis of the vaginal discharge. Since it is usually acquired through sexual transmission, your partner should be treated to prevent re-infection. The doctor will prescribe antibiotic medications for treatment.
