Learn more about the feeding bottles and milk formulas options for bottle-feeding.

Milk Formula

Generally, there are 4 types of milk-based formulas for babies. Ask your paediatrician for advice on which type is best for your baby. Avoid changing milk formula without medical advice, as too many changes may put the baby off milk altogether.

Which Milk Formula is Right for Your Baby?

  • Milk-based (Cow's milk formula).
Infant formula has been altered so that it closely resembles breast milk in terms of the percentage of carbohydrates, protein and fat content, making it easier to digest.

  • Soy-based formula (with soy proteins).
This formula is for babies who are allergic to cow's milk, and is also an alternative for babies who are unable to tolerate lactose, a sugar found naturally in milk. Be sure to choose a soy formula specifically designed for infants, not soy milk.

  • Protein hydrolysate formula (hydrolysate-based).
Hydrolysate-based milk is an alternative to standard cow's milk formula, with partially hydrolysed protein for babies with milk allergy.

  • Lactose-free formula.
This formula is for lactose-intolerant babies. Babies with lactose intolerance may develop abdominal cramps, watery diarrhea and gas if they drink more than a small amount of milk.
