It's normal to feel stressed at some point -- after all, pregnancy is a life-changing event! But if it becomes chronic or severe, this could cause health problems. Studies suggest that maternal stress is linked premature births and may also affect fetal brain development, including a lowered IQ, Edwards highlights. For the mother, stress can also lead to high blood pressure, insomnia, loss of appetite or overeating. If you think you may be depressed, talk to your provider right away -- getting treatment and counseling early can help.
