Breastfeeding position:

Cradle hold

In this classic breastfeeding position, you cradle your baby's head with the crook of your arm on the same side as your nursing breast. If she is nursing on your right breast, rest her head in the crook of your right elbow.

How-to: Sit upright, preferably in a chair with armrests. Cradle your baby in your lap so she is lying on her side facing your breast. Extend your forearm and hand down her back to support her neck and bottom. For extra support, place a pillow on your lap.

Best for: Babies delivered vaginally -- mothers who have had a cesarean section may find this position puts too much pressure on their abdomen. This position is also easier once your baby has stronger neck muscles, at about 1 month old.
