Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Learn more about wrist pain, finger numbness and repetitive strain injury.
Carpal tunnel syndrome, a repetitive strain injury which develops over time due to repetitive movements of the hand or wrists, is a common occupational hazard. If your occupation requires repetitive hand / wrist movements for long hours, such as an IT professional, hair stylist or factory assembly worker, you are at a high risk of developing this disorder.

Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

If your job causes you to develop burning sensation, numbness, or clumsiness affecting the first three fingers of one or both hands, chances are that Carpal tunnel syndrome is the cause.

Here's a simple self-test for carpal tunnel syndrome: Place the back of your hands together, with your fingers pointing to the floor, the wrists bent 90 degrees and the elbows pointing to the sides. If holding this position for over a minute brings on pain or numbness, you probably have carpal tunnel syndrome.
