8. Tweak the recipes

Your favorite recipes can often be modified so they're healthier. And most of the time, you wouldn't even notice the difference! Here are some tips:

  • Replace pasta with whole-wheat pasta
  • Cut back on high-fat high-calorie toppings such as frosting or whipped cream
  • For most main dishes, soups and salads, you can cut the salt by half or eliminate it completely
  • For baking, replace half the shortening, butter or oil with applesauce or prune puree
