| | 8 / 12 Month 7 (Week 28)
This month marks the beginning of the third trimester and the fetus weighs about 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) and is about 38 cm (14.8 inches) long. At about week 28 most babies begin to start turning head down. As the room becomes more crowded, you may feel smaller movements from the baby, compared to the wild kicks from before. The baby can sense light and dark in the uterus, and this may also affect its sleep and wake cycles. If the baby were born prematurely now, there's a good chance of survival with the help of medical technology. Ask your doctor about preterm labor warning signs. Now is a good time to register for birthing classes to prepare you for labor and delivery, and newborn care.
